Friday 1st July 2016 was a day to raise awareness of mesothelioma and remember victims of this terrible asbestos disease. We held an event a Sheffield Cathedral which was an opportunity for our supporters to meet and listen to talks from our guest speakers.
Gill Furniss MP for Sheffield Brightside read out a list of victims in our catchment area and also talked about the impact of mesothelioma in the local area.
Adrian Budgen of the June Hancock Mesothelioma Research Fund gave a talk about asbestos and female vicitims, particularly highlighting those exposed in a non-industrial setting.
Dr Chris Barber gave an overview of the history of mesothelioma, asbestos disease trends and current research.
Helena Stanley, Lung Cancer Nurse, talked about current treatment for mesothelioma.
We also had the pleasure of a talk from Ray Jackson Sheffield Trades Union Council Vice-President.
The event was well attended and after the talks, there was a candle lighting ceremony and a reading in the cathedral. We would like to thank all those that attend for coming to this important annual event to raise awareness of mesothelioma and asbestos disease in general.
